The CLI Board

The CLI Board is committed to our mission both in acts of service and financial giving with 100% participation. We meet bi-monthly and just held an annual planning retreat to review CLI’s existing Master Plan while seeking the Lord’s vision for the future. Here is the board and officers for 2013.

Lanny Bynum - Chair

Lanny Bynum, CPA is a principal at Burns and Bynum, CPA, PA in Cary, NC. He has over 25 years of diverse financial and strategic operational experience and leads the financial, accounting and strategic consulting specialties of the firm. After beginning his career with KMPG Peat Marwick, he spent over 20 years in Chief Financial and Operating Officer positions within several industries of various sizes. His career includes being Senior Vice President of Finance and Administration of Serenex, Inc.; Executive Vice President, CFO and COO at Rockett, Burkhead & Winslow; Executive Director Memorex Telex/International Trading Company; Executive Vice President and Principal of IllumElex Corporation; and Controller and Founding Team Member of the Chemical Industry Institute of Toxicology. Lanny is a graduate of the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. He invited Jesus into his heart in 1975. Lanny has been married to his wife Cheryl for 37 years and are active members of Hope Community church.

Rex Thomas - Vice-Chair and Board Development

Rex is currently principal of Avison Young – North Carolina LLC, a leading commercial real estate firm.  He has over 30 years experience in the commercial real estate business in the Raleigh area. Rex is an active member of the Greater Raleigh, Durham and Cary Chambers of Commerce, serves on the Campbell University Board of Advisors, and is Chairman of the Research Triangle Park Service Center Board. Rex was a founding director of Capital Bank. He also oversees local market surveys published quarterly by Triangle Business Journal/TRAOBA.  Rex is a graduate of Campbell University and invited Jesus into his heart in 1957. Rex has been married to his wife Carol for 32 years and are active members of Highland United Methodist Church in Raleigh.  They have two daughters and four grandchildren.

Pete Manuel - Secretary

Pete Manuel is the president and founder of Raleigh Mechanical (RMM).  He has been active in Prison Ministry for over 10 years.

Todd Lamar - Treasurer

Todd Lamar is president of Armstrong Relocation a national moving company. Todd's company has provided shipping boxes and pallet storage for CLI for several years.

Kathleen Skaar - Director and Founder

Kathleen Skaar is the founder and Executive Director of Christian Library International. After trusting Jesus as her Lord and Savior in 1995 at a women’s retreat, she grew in her relationship with God through Christian books and Bible study. Wanting others to have advantage of these resources, the Lord led her to start CLI in 1996. Kathleen oversees the day to day operations of the ministry and, with other board members, seeks God's will for its future. Prior to founding CLI, Kathleen owned a couple of businesses and worked for insurance companies. She has a BA from University of Florida, an MBA from Meredith College and a Master of Divinity from Southeastern Seminary. Kathleen is married to Anders and they are blessed with three children and five grandchildren. Kathleen and Anders are members of Crossroads Fellowship.

Anders Skaar - Director and Missions and Development

Anders serves on the staff of Christian Library International as Missions Director. His primary function is to develop new CLI outreaches and donors. He joined CLI part time and was called into full-time ministry in 2002. For 20 years, he was President of Pointe International, a successful executive search firm focused on the semiconductor industry. Anders was a ham radio operator in high school, attended the University of Illinois and later traveled extensively in Europe and Latin America. Anders accepted Christ as Lord and Savior in 1995 and has been on several medical missions as an interpreter. He volunteers in prison ministry and has been married to Kathleen since 1984.

Marilyn Avila - Director and Special Events

Marilyn Avila is a long time Raleigh resident and is cuttently the representative for the North Raleigh district 40 in the North Carolina House. Her complete bio can be found at her website.
